   between the broken pieces:
the untold stories of depression in Kuching

is one of our passion projects, created to raise awareness about mental health in Kuching, Sarawak.

Our team collected letters written by individuals navigating their journeys with depression — many of them silently — and showcased the collection in this exhibition. Each letter chronicles the writer’s experience of living with depression, often hidden due to fear of shame and social rejection. This fear stems from the stigma surrounding mental illness in Kuching’s relatively reserved society, where mental health awareness remains low.

“Between the Broken Pieces” was restaged in Singapore the following year (2019) under the title Between the Pieces: An Exhibition on Untold Stories of Depression in Singapore & Kuching. It was held concurrently with the Kuching edition during World Mental Health Month.
